This set of remnants contains four ”Gul I Peron” tribal disks/patches. The beaded disks have been salvaged from a garment or other piece. Called “Gul I Peron”, which means “dress flower”, patches like this one are used by the Kuchi and other nomadic people in Afghanistan as a design element in their clothing. It might be sewn on to a dress or vest or on to another textile. There is cardboard between several layers of fabric which gives support to the beadwork. The largest disk has beautiful gold metallic stitching.

Afghanistan has been at the heart of the crossroads for the Silk Road for centuries. Nomads and generations of ethnic groups have thrived on trade and beautiful handicraft skills. Textiles, embroidery and carpet weaving continue to represent a plethora of skills that extend on into metal work, wood work, and ceramics. Designs reflect both the beauty of nature and life of spirit in choice of colors and fluidity of the design.
