This listing is for similar strands of the round green serpentine strands pictured. The beads are graduated, starting at about 10 mm at the ends and 15 mm in the middle. There are silver spacer beads between the roundelles, probably a base metal.

Please examine the photos carefully. We have made every attempt to get as close to the color as possible, but different monitors do interpret these colors differently. And, you will notice that the sizes of the beads do vary from strand to strand. Flaws, hairline cracks and uneven finishing is part of this handmade process.

These strands are sold as supplies, but do come with a basic hook at the end so it could be worn as is. Our beads are unpolished and take on a rich lustrous sheen with wear.

Serpentine Properties: (Crystal-Cure.com)

Serpentine gets its name from the word ‘serpent’ because it resembles the skin of a snake. It is sometimes called New Jade and occurs in a variety of colors including red, green, brown-red, brown-yellow and white. It has been used since ancient times to guard against disease and sorcery.

Serpentine makes an exceptional meditation stone. It helps you to find inner peace. Serpentine was carried in ancient Assyria to request the gods and goddesses to provide double blessings. Nursing women used it to regulate their milk supply.

Some of the uses of serpentine include:

* Protection against poisonous creatures such as snakes, insects, etc.
* Balances mood swings
* Encourages the ability to solve conflicts by peaceful means

Healing properties of Serpentine

Serpentine can be placed directly on the skin. It is an aid to kidney and stomach complaints, relaxes cramps and menstrual pain and helps women who are unable to reach orgasm due to tension.
Sources of Serpentine

Serpentine is found in New Zealand, China, Afghanistan, South Africa, USA, and England.

Afghan Tribal Arts specializes in handcut, unpolished beads from Afghanistan and the region. Working with artisans directly in the Peshawar region, your purchase helps support small workshops who work in traditions established over centuries in the Silk Road. Afghanistan has great wealth in its natural resources, including an endless variety of semi-precious stones. Unpolished stones take in the oils of the skin with wear and develop a deep patina over time.

Recognizing that these strands are more expensive than the dyed and commercial stones that flood the market these days, we encourage our customers to think of buying with other friends and splitting the strands or to buy quantity in order to save on shipping. Free shipping on all purchases over $100 in the US. (Discounts given on shipping for international orders over $100.)
