This is a beautiful and uncommon 19th century rectangular kitchenalia object with a pleasingly warm surface and coloration to the wood. You can tell it was lovingly hand-carved and plentifully used, with remnants of flour deep in the recessed spots. There are two graceful botanical/plant-life carvings, a panel with rows of diamond shapes (with its upper left corner placement on the board, this panel echoes the American flag’s stars), and there are three panels with horizontal stripes. The panels are highlighted and reinforced with slender metal bands set into the wood. The flat reverse side might have been used as a cutting board, judging by the marks on its surface. The measurements are 9 3/8″ in length, 6 1/8″ in width, and 5/8″ in depth. Some overall age and wear, as is to be expected. Good overall antique condition.
