Description

  • Hand-dyed, handwoven ikat fabric from Margilan, Uzbekistan
  • Design by Tajik artisans at Armughon Handicrafts
  • Fair Trade
  • 21″ X 26″ (hidden zipper on back)
  • Solid-100% cotton; adras ikat (60% silk/40% cotton)
  • Dry cleaning recommended
  • Pillow insert not included
  • Red Variety coming soon
  • Please note: Ikats are hand woven/dyed, so they often have what would be considered imperfections if they were mass-produced using high powered looms, i.e. flecks of other dye colors, looped yarns and what appear to be runs. This is the inherent beauty of a completely hand woven and hand dyed fabric.

Armughon Handicrafts is the handicrafts arm of the Zerafshan Tourism Development Association (ZTDA) in Panjakent, Tajikistan, just across the border from Samarkand. (“Armughon” means “gift, a reminder of a place” in Tajik.)   ZTDA works to preserve, nurture and develop local art traditions, while also improving the quality of life for women living in the Panjakenti rural areas by involving them in the local economy. ZTDA designer Munira Akilova creates new products that incorporate traditional suzani (embroidery) and quroq (patchwork) techniques and traditional patterns and ornaments from the Zerafshan Valley. As she explains,  “Each piece has its own meaning, [and] a part of Zerafshan.”  Several of her designs have received the UNESCO Award of Excellence for Craft.  Click here for more information about Armughon Handicrafts.

    HoonArts

Rikki Quintana founded HoonArts Fair Trade in a leap of faith in 2014, working with master artisans in Tajikistan who had no reliable western outlet for their beautiful handcrafted products. Since then, she’s expanded the business to include products from artisans in Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. Her long-term fair trade partnerships with internationally renowned artists make it possible to offer unique and authentic handcrafted fashion and home decor items that are not available anywhere else in North America. HoonArts also offers travel tours, live and recorded online experiences and master classes, and other behind-the scenes education, making HoonArts your go-to “Doorway to the ‘Stans.”
