Description
Adjustable necklace with maximum of 18″. Choice of chain material. Triangular glass beads from Kiffa, Mauritania, Africa hanging from gunmetal or gold tone curb chain.
a. Gunmetal cable chain with triangular Kiffa bead, white background with blue, red, black and yellow pattern. Red coral tube bead dangle at clasp.
b. Gold tone curb chain with triangular Kiffa bead, yellow background with blue, red, black and white pattern. Red Czech white heart bead dangle at clasp.
Kiffa beads are prized and generally higher priced than other African beads, particularly the older Kiffa beads. They are made from powdered glass to which the colors are added with a pointed tool using saliva. The technique had been lost when the last of the old craftswomen died in the mid 20th century. It has been revived and the old patterns used, but the quality is not so fine.
