Description

Lewis Chess Piece. The Berserker. (Copy of one of the Lewis Chessmen).

Chessman is hand-carved from an old buffalo bone and attached to a wooden stand with brass wire. The chess piece is removed from the stand. The stand is made of bog oak. The product is not covered with anything. These are the natural colors of both bone and wood.
Wonderful work in your collection and a unique gift. Each work is a unique piece of art. The last photo shows the original chessman figure for comparison.

The total height is about 22 cm (8.66 inches)
The size of the chessman is about 9 cm (3.54 inches) and the width at the bottom is 3.5 cm (1,38 inches).

The Lewis Chessmen are intricate chess pieces in the form of Norse warriors that were carved in the 12th century. They are the most important chess pieces in history. Perhaps the most well-known pieces are the 4 Berserkers, gnawing on their shields and working themselves into a frenzy before going into battle without armor. Chess was popular with the Vikings.

A very unique and rare copy.

Good shopping. Best regards Oksana.

Roman and Oksana live in Ukraine and love Viking culture and design! Roman carves amulets, knife handles and accessories from bone, antlers and horn, all shed naturally by the animals. Oksana takes care of the marketing and of running their shop on Etsy.

From Roman:

“My art is an integral part of my life. I do bone carving, mostly Viking style. In general, I can carve anything, but not all carving brings me pleasure and inspiration. The Viking history interests me and inspires me. I have been carving for more than 15 years and have sold my work to people in many different countries. I am very happy that I can share my art and my products far beyond my own country. Each new design in anything I make is a challenge. I love everything about my work. I never do anything I don’t like.”
