Bird Vase for Succulents, Pens or Brushes
I make fun, whimsical functional bowls, planters, plates and other clay items with the goal of making you smile! This is an example of something I’ve had in my shop on Etsy. The is a bird hand painted in underglaze before the first firing. It is in shades of yellow, orange and white. After that a clear glaze is added to the outside and the inside was glazed yellow. The inside is completely glazed so it is food and water safe. It could be used to hold flowers, succulents, pens, rings, change or just for display. It is actually food safe, so you could also use it for breadsticks too. It is 6 1/4 inches tall and 8 inches across from wing to wing. The opening is 3 inches in diameter. I have shown one photo with a soda can to give you an idea of the size.
Full Disclosure on this piece. One of the wings broke and I glued it together. You cannot see it unless you look close but I have moved it to my seconds section and discounted the price. One of the photos shows the broken part and where it was glued back on.
This style of animal is made from a slab of clay and then rolled into a cylinder. A bottom is attached and then I alter it to form the body pushing out the sides and the lip of the vase. A face and sometimes tails are added. Some pieces have underglaze hand painted on the outside for detail and are clear glazed while others just get coated in colored glaze. I like them to be whimsical and fun so I tend to play loose with shapes and colors. No one piece is ever exactly like the next, so they are all original and one of a kind.
I believe in recycling all of my packaging materials as to save on waste. What is inside the box is really pretty but the outside might be a box and packing paper I have received from someone else. I try and double box all of my pieces as much as possible for protection so they will also be heavier than normal. Since everything I create is one of a kind, I try and keep it as safe as I can while it is traveling to its new home.
