Haitian Metal Art, Sunflower, Recycled Metal Art, Handcrafted in Haiti

I began working in Haiti over 19 years ago with the goal of fighting poverty through art. During that time, we have worked with as many as 120 artists, cultivating business relationships, and building friendships. We have learned the good that comes from Fair Trade. Because of our firm belief in Fair Trade and its practice, every sale we make of metal art makes a positive impact on the artist who produces it. Those benefits flow through the whole workshop and create prosperity for their own family, workers and apprentices, and ultimately, the entire village. We are proud to be a part of that and we hope that as you admire your new piece of handcrafted, recycled folk art you will feel a bit of that pride as well.

This piece is an example of what we have carried in the past. Visit our website or our Etsy shop to see our full collections!

Description

Garden Metal Sunflower forever!
8″ x 11.5″

A single sunflower to brighten a space or embellish a mixed-media arrangement. Signed by the artist, it is a sweet little piece of original folk art.

Hand-crafted from cast-off 55 gallon steel drums, artists in Haiti follow four generations of tradition in metal sculpture.
The artist first visualizes his design, often taking inspiration from his culture and natural surroundings.
Next, he chalks his design onto the flattened metal and then, using only a hammer and chisel, gives the sculpture form and dimension.
The result is a unique piece of folk art, perfect for home or garden use.
These sculptures are great indoor or out~ For outdoor use the varnish will wear away over time and the sculpture will begin to rust naturally or you can maintain the original look by spraying it with a clear enamel every couple of years~
