Siamese Cat Casserole Dish
I make fun, whimsical functional bowls, planters, plates and other clay items with the goal of making you smile! This is an example of something I’ve had in my shop on Etsy. This is a hand made ceramic Siamese casserole dish that is oven, dishwasher and microwave safe. This design is a cat and the outside is hand painted while the inside is glazed in a mottled gray/purple. It can also be used to hold fruit, vegetables or as a serving dish. It measures 11 by 11 by X just under 3 inches deep. The sides have handles with a fish and cat design.
This style of dish starts from a slab of clay as the bottom and then sides are attached. Then I alter it by pushing out the sides and the lip of the dish. They could be round, triangular, square or rectangular. A face, and sometimes handles and tails are added. Some pieces have underglaze hand painted on the outside for detail and are clear glazed while others just get coated in colored glaze. I like them to be whimsical and fun so I tend to play loose with shapes and colors. No one piece is ever exactly like the next, so they are all original and one of a kind.
I believe in recycling all of my packaging materials as to save on waste. What is inside the box is really pretty but the outside might be a box and packing paper I have received from someone else. I try and double box all of my pieces as much as possible for protection so they will also be heavier than normal. Since everything I create is one of a kind, I try and keep it as safe as I can while it is traveling to its new home.
