Description
The Old Constantinople necklace has an authentic artifact from Constantinople from 1028-1034 AD (about 1000 years old).
The central piece of the Old Constantinople necklace is a used-to-be bronze follis, struck in Constantinople, during Romanos III Argyros reign, sometime between 1028 and 1034.
The front side shows Christ Pantocrator, a specific depiction of Christ. Pantocrator is usually translated as Almighty or all-powerful. This symbolizes a mild but stern, all-powerful judge of humanity.
The image of Christ Pantocrator was one of the first images of Christ developed in the Early Christian Church and remains a central icon of the Eastern Orthodox Church. In the half-length image, Christ holds the New Testament in his left hand and makes the gesture of teaching or of blessing with his right.
On the reverse side you will see a large cross set upon three steps, IS XS above the crossbar and BASILÐ/ BASILÐ in two lines below.
I framed this beautiful artifact with lapis lazuli, a colour of heaven. Metal parts are pure copper to match the central piece of the necklace.
