Triple Hexagon Quilt – Framed in White
This is an example of a listing I have had on Etsy. I mostly work directly with customers who have requests for colors, patterns and sizes that fit their needs. I especially love making quilts that use customer fabrics that are embedded with meaning. Visit my shop on Etsy to see the designs I offer, but feel free to connect with me for special requests. Prices are based on size and complexity.

Description
Handmade triple hexagon quilt made to order in any size or color scheme, with white trim added to enhance each shape and color. Pictured in queen size. Within each hexagon, three concentric rings of varying coordinating colors are displayed, and trimmed in white for a neat finishing touch. Imagine this pattern in your favorite colors – choose bright and bold, light pastels, rich fall colors, or even a range of the lights to darks of the same hue.
The pictured quilt is queen size, and each hexagon measures 14″ wide by 12″ high. Hexagon size is adjusted smaller to accommodate smaller sized quilts.
This quilt would make a treasured gift for a special wedding, a new baby, or Christmas. This quilt would also be a beautiful addition to one’s own bed, made in favorite colors.
Because of the extensive amount of piecing involved in making this quilt, it takes a bit longer than normal to make.
The final quilting design is free-motion, meaning the work is completely stitched by my hand and eyes, not computer generated. The stitches will be an all over design such as curvy or geometric meander, swirls, or flowery loops for this quilt, customer choice.
Once your order is placed and fabrics are chosen, you have the option of choosing quilting design as well. If a different custom quilting design is desired (such as straight line stitches), there will be an additional 10% charge.
Quilts make thoughtful and lasting gifts for any special occasion – think gifts for Christmas, birthday, christening, graduation, shower, housewarming, holiday, bereavement, wedding, or simply to let a special someone know you care.
All quilts are created by one person, in my non-smoking studio, never out sourced, and ready to be enjoyed for years to come.
If you are interested in purchasing this quilt, please order directly from this listing.

HOW ITS MADE
The top layer of the quilt is the main design element, fabrics carefully chosen, cut, and sewn together, piece by piece, on my Bernina machine. Creating the quilt top is typically the longest part of the process.
The middle layer is hidden, inside the top and bottom layer, and is a soft layer of batting made from premium cotton/poly 80/20 batting or 100% cotton.
The bottom or back layer of the quilt is made of only one fabric that coordinates with the top.
All three layers are sandwiched together, then carefully quilted in an all over design pattern, for the quickest result. Customer can have input on quilting design if desired.

Quilting began as a hobby for me in 2007, when my Mother (who was quite passionate about quilting, and creating in general), gave me a quick lesson on how to make a Christmas table runner. At that time, I was a high school science teacher, and with no background in art or textiles, I had much to learn. But, as is the story with many quilters, once you get started, it becomes quite the addiction. I retired early from teaching in 2008, and after making quilts for family members, babies of friends, and every bed in my house, I needed to pass some of these pieces on to others who could use them. Thus began my Etsy shop, Bluegrass Quilts, in 2015. I love designing with color, and working with customers to find the combination of colors and styles they love, then turning it into something they can keep for a lifetime.
Most of the quilts in my shop are offered as custom, commissioned pieces, made to order in various sizes and any color scheme imaginable. Customers typically browse through the many quilt listings in my shop, and order directly from the menu of choices in any size, ranging from crib size all the way to California King. Custom sizes are also available upon asking. Customer input can occur on various levels, from determining fabric preferences, sizing needs, and choosing quilt stitching design. All of these decisions are made by discussions that occur throughout the process, using email or Etsys messaging system in my shop. Time for completion varies, depending on my current workload. Estimated time of completion is provided upon request, or after ordering. Currently, the wait time is approximately 4-5 months. Email: bluegrassquilts @ gmail.com (remove the spaces)
The most fulfilling type of quilt to make is upcycling clothing from a loved one and turning it into a quilt. There is a two-fold benefit from these quilts not only are we working toward sustainability, but the memories created from using a quilt made from articles belonging to one we love are priceless and precious. I recognize and appreciate this when I create these quilts.
